Dress up day!

Robbie is away at the moment at his first high school camp and dealing with new girl friend stuff and embracing a new media era of being allowed to watch some M rated movies.  In what seemed like an eternity at the time, 12 years has suddenly become a very small and fast period of time.  We have welcomed the new big boy times ahead with career choices and car savings, sex education and so on.  So I was completely caught off guard when he showed up at my study door dressed up for a battle.  Dress ups are not a unique pass-time for any child and every parent loves to see their child playing make believe, but I saw this as perhaps being the last time I see him make believe in this way.  I watched him balance on top of our front gate (rendered brick wall) guarding our home from attacking aliens, shooting at the enemy with a variety of weapons and protecting himself with invisible shields.  I enjoyed having the opportunity of seeing it this one last time.  While he is blissfully unaware that his life is moving into a more young adult realm, I can't help but reminisce about all the time he spent dressed this way

May be the era might change but underneath there will always be the fun of a dress up time. Remember the musicals at high school. Three of the family were involved in them and "dressed up". Looks like Robbie will be one of those who will just love the opportunity to "dress up".
